한글엽서는 한국의 고유한 글자 한글로 한국의 언어와 문화를 소개합니다. 엽서는 대한민국 소개를 비롯하여 한글, 한복, 한식, 한옥, 한지, 판소리, 태권도 한국문화와 사랑, 축하, 감사, 응원의 마음을 담은 한국어로 구성됩니다.
한글은 1443년 조선의 세종대왕이 창제한 한국의 고유한 글자입니다. 세종대왕은 한글 창제하고 3년 지나 한글을 반포하면서 새로운 글자 한글을 설명하는 「훈민정음」을 발간하였습니다. 이를 통해 우리는 한글의 창제자, 창제시기, 창제원리를 분명하게 알 수 있습니다. 한글 창제 전에 한국인들은 한자를 사용했습니다. 하지만 한자는 한국어와 맞지 않고 어려워서 일반 백성들은 거의 사용할 수 없었습니다. 이를 안타깝게 여긴 세종대왕은 한국어와 맞고, 쉽게 배워 사용할 수 있는 한글을 창제했습니다.
한글의 자음은 조음기관의 모양을 본뜨고, 모음은 하늘·땅·사람의 철학을 담았습니다. 한글은 자음 14자, 모음 10자 총 24자로 구성되는데, 이는 기본 자음 5자, 기본 모음 3자로 축약할 수 있습니다. 한글은 이 8개의 기본자에 획을 더하거나, 기본자를 서로 결합하여서 무수한 소리를 표현할 수 있습니다.

Hangeul postcards introduce Korean culture and language with Hangeul, the alphabet of Korea. One set of postcards consists of ‘Hangeul’, ‘Hanbok’, ‘Hansik’, ‘Hanok’, ‘Hanji’, ‘Pansori’, ‘Taekwondo’ Korean culture, introduction about Korea, and Korean meaning ‘saranghaeyo (I love you)’, ‘chukahaeyo (Congratulations)’, ‘gamsahaeyo (Thank you)’, and ’ariari (Go Go)‘.
Hangeul is the official Korean alphabet created by King Sejong the Great in 1443 Joseon. Upon the invention of Hangeul, King Sejong published Hunminjeongeum, the Hangeul guidebook, which established the creator, time, and principles of Hangeul’s invention. Before the creation of Hangeul, Koreans used Chinese characters. Unfortunately, these characters were not suitable for the Korean language and were too difficult to be used widely by the general public. Recognizing the problem, King Sejong created Hangeul, the alphabet developed specifically for the Korean language.
The consonants of Hangeul refer to the shape of the speech mechanism and vowels signify the philosophy of heaven, earth, and man. Hangeul contains a total of 24 alphabets, with 14 consonants and 10 vowels that can be broken down into 5 basic consonants and 3 basic vowels. By adding strokes or combining 8 basic alphabets, Hangeul can express numerous sounds.
Hangeul is the Korean alphabet that links the hearts of not only Koreans in Korean Peninsula and abroad, but also 150 million Korean culture fans all around the globe.
